Transition types

Transitions are used to cut between two different shots. There are many different types of transitions like dissolve which as used in establishing shots, as they slow the pace down and they also are more interesting to use that a cut. A fade to white is mostly used to signifies when someone is unconscious or dead and a fade to black is used when a film ends. When one shot ends they use a fade to black to show a passage of time between the next shot. Jump cutting is used in a "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" where two characters are in a library and then there is a jump cut and one of them is gone. It is used to change a location or character. to create pace in a film you use rapid editing which is where you use quick shots to keep it interesting and the audience interested. Another transition is the wipe where you can use a moving object to get to the next shot e.g a car or truck. You can use shapes in your wipe however they normally look cheesy and cheap. "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" jump cut example.
